Hibiscus Ginger drink (Agua De Jamaica)

One of my to go drink when I visit Mexico is Agua de Jamaica. I recreated this traditional family recipe. This agua fresca is loaded with Vitamin C and can even lower blood pressure! It is also very refreshing for this hot summer!

Hibiscus: The Hibiscus plant is rich in antioxidants such as beta-carotene, vitamin C. Fights inflammation, lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, promote weight loss, fight bacteria and supports liver health. Help to prevent cell damage caused by free radicals in the body

Anise Star: The oil produced from star anise contains thymol, terpineol and anethole, which is used for treating cough and flu. Anise also helps improve digestion, alleviate cramps and reduce nausea. Consuming star anise tea after meals helps treat digestive ailments such as bloating, gas, indigestion and constipation

Elderberries: The berries and flowers of elderberry are packed with antioxidants and vitamins that may boost your immune system. They could help tame inflammation, lessen stress, and help protect your heart, too. Some experts recommend elderberry to help prevent and ease cold and flu symptoms.

Juniper: Juniper berries or extract of the plant has traditionally been used as diuretic, anti-arthritis, anti-diabetes, antiseptic as well as for the treatment of gastrointestinal and autoimmune disorders

Cinnamon: Is a highly delicious spice. One of my favorite spice. It has been prized for its medicinal properties for thousands of years. There are two main types of cinnamon. Ceylon Cinnamon also known as true cinnamon. And Cassia cinnamon. the more common variety today and what people generally refer to as cinnamon. It is loaded with antioxidants, it is anti-inflammatory which it helps your body fight infections and repair tissue damage. Can improve sensitivity to the hormone insulin and lowers blood sugar levels.

Ginger: Better for your digestion, Ginger helps speed up the digestion process and empty your stomach more quickly. Improves immunity, and reduce pain. It is recommended because it has the highest concentration of gingerol, which is beneficial to your health when it comes to fight infections.

Hibiscus Ginger drink (Agua De Jamaica)

Ingredients

  • 6 cups water

  • 1/3 Hibiscus Dry Flowers

  • 1 Anise Start

  • 1 Tsp Elderberry

  • 1 Tsp Juniper

  • 1 Cinnamon Stick

  • 25 gram ginger

Process

  • Boil all the ingredients for 10 minutes. Let it cool down. Strain it. Refrigerate or just poor some ice. Honey or Sweetener (optional).
