As the New Year is fast approaching, I am sure we all have our goals we are getting ready to try to accomplish in the New Year. As we make our goals, we must really think about what is necessary and not be too hard on ourselves. Some people start off the new year slowly, build up steam into the year and finish very strong, while some others start off great and by the first quarter, they’re already out of steam to follow through with their goals.
It’s important to do things at a steady pace and remember what the result is going to be. We must make plans on how these things get accomplished and stay on the path. We must try to not take shortcuts on this path. When we find that we are getting the results we were hoping for, we should still stick to the plan and remain committed to seeing it through till the end.
When it comes to making plans, we need to also remember that the first thing we try may not work for us. So, we need to give ourselves some time to get into the groove of it. It’s important you find what works best for you. If something does not work, keep looking till you find what does and stick with it. With some good planning, determination, and a can-do attitude, I’m sure you’ll make 2023 happen for you.
The new year is usually a great time to challenge ourselves to be better. To adopt new healthy habits, quit bad old ones and make other changes towards the fulfillment of a goal or desire we’ve been working towards for some time. For some people it’s difficult, for some others it’s very difficult but making long term lifestyle changes is not an easy task for anyone.
Whether you are trying to exercise more, eat healthier, sleep better, have a more positive attitude towards life, lose weight, spend more time with loved ones or spend more time taking care of yourself, it takes a lot of courage to make these changes and stick with them no matter what.
So, if there are certain things you’d like to achieve in the new year what could that be? In case you’re still thinking about it, below is a list of five broad areas you should seriously consider if you’re looking to make meaningful and lasting changes that would make the new year worth looking forward to.
- Learn new things
Learning and adopting a new healthy habit, a new skill, a new hobby or some other things you’ve always wanted to do could be one of anybody’s biggest achievements in a year. One common trait with successful people in life is their willingness to keep learning and keep making improvements in their health, work, relationships, and lifestyle.
What’s that new quest you’ve been putting off? music lessons, swimming lessons, a side hustle, a new skill, a business or changes in your habits and lifestyle improvement? 2023 is the perfect year to get started and get going with it.
- Cut old habits
We all have habits, whether good ones or bad ones. Habits are those things you do without thinking which have formed part of our daily lives and making changes to them can be one of the most challenging things to do. Whether you are trying to exercise more, eat healthier, sleep better, have a more positive attitude towards life, lose weight, spend more time with loved ones or spend more time taking care of yourself, it takes a lot of courage to make these changes and stick with them no matter the challenges.
So, if there are things you do or don’t do that prevent you from living the type of life you desire, now would be a good time to think about those habits and decide to make the necessary changes to move your life forward.
- Take care of your health
Health, they say, is wealth. In 2023, make it a habit to pay regular visits to the doctor for routine checkups (i.e., if you’re not currently doing that). Even if you’re enjoying sound health, you should still make time for these visits so that nothing catches you off guard. Likewise, adopt new routines that can help become healthier, get quality rest, eat healthier, exercise, as well as positively nurture your spiritual and social life to create the balance you need to live a healthy life.
- Schedule me-times in your calendar to catch a break and clear your mind.
There are days when you just want to be left alone to be by yourself and do only the things you want to do. Plan for these days and make sure they’re already booked in your calendar at least up until the end of the first quarter. Planning these days ahead helps you block them out in your calendar so that nothing else takes its place and you’re excitedly looking forward to them while you’re working hard in the new year
- Embrace routine
In 2023, learn to embrace routine and ritual because of how critical they are in helping you find and maintain your balance. Personally, routines and rituals are what keep me going. It’s how I wake up in the morning and how I get to accomplish my tasks for the day. From work, training, reading, practice, and other daily chores, routine helps me do the things I do every day and helps me stay consistent at it.
I think you too should think along these lines as well, from taking meetings, to cooking meals to workouts, naps, rest time etc. plan your life around routines, it helps to keep you focused, consistent and constantly improving in any goal you set out to achieve.
Be kind to yourself.
In 2023, desire to be the best version of yourself without losing the better version that you are today
