Keeping Up with Your Summer Fitness Goals

Summer is around the corner and it’s coming, whether or not we’re ready for it. Suddenly our appetite for backyard Grills and veggies is awakened and our custom of breaking a sweat with heat from the sun will soon be replaced by two things: leaves and snowflakes.

So keeping this in mind, we should be careful not to lose out on the gains we recorded during the warm months which may have helped us tone up or shed a few pounds. The change of seasons should not slow us down, rather we should do what it takes to keep our summer body strong, healthy, and kicking even into the colder months.

Below are a few tips to help you keep up through the season and beyond.

Home Workouts

Workouts do not take too much of our time but produce astonishing results for us as we understand our bodies better and figure out ways to work out more effectively in little bursts of time. Little bursts of workout like high-intensity interval training (HIIT) can be very effective, even if it’s done for as little as 20 minutes. Reduce the stress load experienced during a Sixty or Ninety-minute workout by subscribing to these 20-minute bursts of workout which also helps to lower cortisol levels leading to lower levels of inflammation in the body.

For me, doing short runs or HIIT no more than twice a week, coupled with lots of stretches, sleep, and water is what I need to have a balanced and healthy exercise life”

You’re not a runner? No problem. This summer, trainers are going to be taking a much more mindful approach to help exercise lovers get back to basics with their bodies by embracing simpler movements that’s easier on the body. A PLOS One study published last month revealed that just taking walks outside helped to significantly improve moods, while another study published this month showed that more Americans were taking to walking as a form of exercise; showing the 65 percent of women and 63 percent of men take regular walks to help them stay fit.

Walking is being rediscovered as a great way to stay in shape. This is because,  in stressful times like this, people need something simple and straightforward but yet effective to help lift their spirits, juices or joints, and make them feel alive.

Home workouts don’t necessarily mean working out at home. It could be your backyard, a local park, community recreation center, church facilities, a nearby beach or lake (if you’re fortunate to live close to one), or anywhere outdoors where you can just enjoy the natural warmth and sunshine directly onto your skin.

So, mix things up a little and find new summer fitness routines for yourself. Here are a few ideas to help you out:

  • Try out a different walking or running route
  • Take a park fitness class with friends
  • Join an outdoor volleyball league
  • Do a sunrise yoga class
  • Hire a personal trainer and work out at your park
  • Take a day trip to a nearby hiking spot
  • Practise alternate walking along the lake with bodyweight exercises like squats, lunges, and push-ups

Whether you decide to try out something new or prefer to stick to what you’re already used to while exercising outdoors, keep these few tips in mind when exercising outdoors this summer

Quick Workout Tips for those Busy Days

Walking or just moving your body a little more during the warm weather is usually a great place to start. You might however decide to up the intensity by knocking out a killer workout routine early on in the day so you can just get on with the rest of your summer day.

There is no need to spend hours in the gym to get a full-body workout, and this is especially so during the summer. In fact, in just as little as 15 minutes, you can get intense workouts and still achieve great results over time.

Thinking of trying out the high‐intensity interval training (HIIT), sometimes called burst training, you can check out GLENNY’S HIIT Cardio workout online and save yourself the time and stress of having to find a beach parking place on a crowded Saturday afternoon.

You should also keep these extra tips in mind to help you stay energized and motivated

  • Learn to be cautious with comfort food
  • Stay Hydrated always to stay healthy
  • Less Daylight in the day should not be an excuse not to exercise
  • Shop the farmers market for fresh produce
  • Avoid outside food

Every workout counts! The only bad workout is the one that didn’t happen.

Attitude is everything. Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, either way, you’re right

Enjoy your Summer.
