Healthy Outdoor Summer Activities

It’s summertime once again. The perfect time of the year to indulge in pleasure and leisure. The days that are reminiscent of the warm breeze that creates ripples in lakes and hearts alike, the season when flowers bloom bright and the sun is flamboyant at its peak with its radiance and beauty. The beaches, the barbeque, the camps, the fishing escapades, and all the other exciting activities are what make summer the best time of the year for most fun lovers.

There are several fun activities that one can engage in during summer like; swimming, hiking, fishing, etc. that can boost your health and happiness. Like any other season, summer comes with its positives and negatives, however, I think everyone should endeavor to exploit to the maximum the best that the season holds by engaging in activities that are not just fun but are also healthy. Enjoyable outdoor leisure activities that will contribute to effective blood circulation in your system, improved and well-toned muscle, a happier heart, and healthier skin.

So if you are looking to indulge in some fun and thrilling activities this summer; here’s a list of top five activities you can get involved with to help you achieve a healthy outdoor lifestyle.

  1. Find your way to the beach

Beaches are probably the best place to be in summer. I’m guessing you’re already picturing a perfect lazy summer day on the beach, by yourself or with friends and family, enjoying a few burgers and sipping on some fresh fruit or coconut water.

You’ll find the place crowded with other fun-loving beach enthusiasts soaking themselves in the delight of the heat from the sun and the fresh beach air, enjoying a sun bath or a massage while having their fill with the sights and sounds of the beach. A beach is also a perfect place for family hangouts where the kids get to have a swell time building sand castles and running around in absolute joy.

  1. Summer camps

For many, summer camps are one of the favorite things to do during the summer season, especially for families. Summer camp brings together a variety of various fun activities into one. Most children love camping. For them, summer camps provide them an opportunity to spend extended periods of time away from home and with people other than their usual folks at home.

There are different types of summer camps that can serve different purposes. There are special summer camps for academic learning (in a fun way), camps for performing arts, for children with special needs, weight loss programs, etc. Camping provides people the opportunity to make new friends, discover new interests, learn new things, and bond with family and friends in a very special way.

  1. Outdoor summer sports

Summertime every year boasts of a host of sporting activities that helps to keep the spirit of the season alive. People tend to hit the outdoors during this time of the year with their favorite sports. Beach sports are usually amongst the most popular ones. Beach volleyball is a common sight at most beaches. Rafting, surfing, swimming, and waterskiing are popular sports activities during summer.

Many also indulge in ice sports like; ice-skating, ice hockey, and snowboarding, and all of these are loads of fun. Other popular outdoor summer games include; cycling, diving, tennis, baseball, and golf. It’s almost impossible to go wrong with outdoor sports during summer. It’s a fantastic way to keep healthy and fit and it’s also loaded with a lot of fun and excitement.

  1. Fishing

Anyone who has ever gone fishing would agree that it is one very exciting outdoor experience, especially on days where there is a good chance for amateur inshore anglers to make a good catch. During this time of the year, estuaries and coastal waters are usually filled with a variety of bait fishes and shrimps to be preyed upon by the game fish. This makes summer the best time to go fishing, especially for amateurs. Some popular catches during summer are – Black drum, red drum, spotted sea trout, flounders, pompano, etc. As a general rule, fishing during summer is best done either at dusk or at dawn.

  1. Swimming

Swimming is a great way to enjoy the summer sun. Although you can choose to just take a dip in a swimming pool nearby, taking a swim in a natural water body is probably one of the best treats you can give to your body during summertime. The sea is one of the best places to enjoy a swim. You get to lie on the beach sand and watch the sky in between swimming sessions.

The crowd at the beach also makes it a more enjoyable experience for anyone, with the sights and sounds of joy and laughter from every corner of the beach. Not forgetting the music and the dancing. Swimming also exerts the body and enhances blood circulation, which is very healthy for our bodies. So if you have access to a clean, safe, and relatively deep river or lake in your locality, give it a try.
