What does this even mean? Making it Happen
Well, it means exactly what it means; MAKE IT HAPPEN!
You need to find a way to get things going for you, making sure you do everything you can to not only get started with your goals but to also not stop until you achieve the results you want.
So how do you make it happen?
First, you have to visualize where you want to be in life. For me, I always saw myself supporting women, helping them achieve their goals and find their purpose in life. You first need to see it very clearly in your mind, then you can begin taking steps to actualize that vision.
It’s usually not as easy as it may sound. I remember how it was when I started working towards my goals in life. I did it little by little, not having any tangible progress at the beginning. At some point I felt discouraged because the results I was getting did not match the effort I was putting in everyday.
But it takes time. Picture a child building a sandcastle at the beach, they sit for hours working on the castle only for the waves or the sea breeze to come and knock it off. But then they try again, this time moving to a different location where they think the winds and waves won’t disturb their work. But yet again something happens. They slip, or somelese slip on their castle (unintentionally of course), maybe a child running around or a stray object that cannot recognize a sand castle to avoid it; it’s just another terrible accident.
What does the child do? He or she doesn’t stop, they try again and keep trying until they’ve built their dream castle. They saw it already in their minds, so they’ve become somewhat desperate to see that picture materialize, despite the challenges. Now, that is the power of vision.
It’s about consistency and discipline. For me, I always have two phrases to guide me; My Mindset and Why I want to do it. I’ve also realized that sometimes there are blockers that can stop you from making it happen.
So what are those blockers? What are those things that can stop you from making it happen?
For instance, if someone says to you; “I am not attracted to you”, the way you receive that information will determine how you will react to it. You may interpret those words to mean; you’re not good enough and then you start putting yourself under pressure trying to make adjustments so that you fit into the other person’s idea of “attractive”, using that person’s preferences or opinions to convince yourself that you’re not good enough. Maybe if I do this or do that he/she will like me better, reinforcing those negative beliefs you have about yourself; “I am overweight”, “I am too thin”, “I am too short” etc when in actual fact, it has nothing to do with you.
I know it’s hard to ignore these kinds of statements when you hear them, especially when they’re coming from someone you care about. What if there was another way to look at it. For instance, what if you decide to lose weight not because of that other person but because of yourself, knowing the implications it will have on your physical, mental and emotional health.
You have decided to bring meaningful and lasting change to yourself because you love, care and accept yourself as you are to be perfect and healthy but want to see how you can improve on yourself for yourself and not for any one else. The keyword here is YOU, you want to make it happen, for YOU. Once you say yes to yourself, that is when the real change begins, not for anyone else but for yourself.
You might stumble every now and then during this process, that doesn’t mean you should stop. You want to lose those extra pounds? Then keep doing those exercises, keep working on your diet, even when you derail, get yourself up and get back to it; get back to making it happen.
Love yourself, be passionate about yourself, that is the ultimate ingredient you need to be able to pull through when times get difficult. Authentic self love is the greatest motivation for letting ourselves achieve our desired goals.
Beyond the point being emphasized above, there are other redflags which you should look out for once you feel you’re beginning to derail from achieving your goals. These points are equally important. You should pay attention to them so they don’t stop you from making things happen.
Are you feeling overwhelmed from the pressure of initiating change and sustaining it until you achieve your goals? That’s natural and don’t beat yourself up too much if you feel that way; you’re still human, remember. Take a break if you have to but don’t get comfortable there. Strap yourself up and get back to making it happen, you have a goal to achieve and it is not negotiable.
Or maybe you don’t have a way of knowing where exactly you are with your goals. You seem to be doing so much but can’t track how much progress you’re making. That’s not good, take notes, monitor changes and measure your progress as results help you stay on track when you feel like giving up.
Don’t downplay your wins, give yourself a good pat on the back whenever you achieve some of your milestones.
Sometimes it feels like it’s all too much activity for one person to do in order to achieve his or her goals. Then it probably is. Be deliberate, be strategic, do only what you have to do to achieve a specific goal within a specific period of time. That usually isn’t too much to handle for one person.
What about having a system of accountability? That helps too. Having someone around to help monitor your progress and make sure you keep to your schedules and tasks is another effective way of staying motivated enough to get through the tough times.
Also how clearly defined are your goals? Are they vague or are they specific with precise targets and timelines? For instance you could have a goal like; I want to shed some pounds this month. Better still you can say; I will walk and/or run 20 miles twice each day (morning and evening) so that I can lose 5 or 10 0r 15 pounds by the end of the month
Lastly, don’t waste your downtimes. Whenever you’re on break or you’re not fully engaged with your goals, find activities you can do albeit passively to help you stay motivated for the next task ahead. For instance, I love to listen to podcasts about writing or entrepreneurship during my lunch time. This keeps my mind focused on my goals even when I’m not actively working on them. Wondering what you can do during your down times to keep your spirits up? You can check a couple of ideas on things to do in the link here, i’m sure you’ll find something that suits you

Final Thoughts
People often want to make you believe that success is easy to achieve, but that is so not true. With every success you achieve, there is a price to pay and it’s usually not cheap. You can choose to stay where you are and there’s nothing wrong with that but you can als choose to do the hard stuff so you can achieve more for yourself and for others.
One quote from Thomas Edison that I always keep in mind whenever I feel discouraged from failing at something is what he said after he made 10,000 attempts at the electric lightbulb and didn’t succeed.
He said; “I didn’t fail, I only discovered 10,000 ways about it that couldn’t work”
Make it Happen, live the life you’ve always wanted to live
