A Grateful Mindset

There are times in our lives when it becomes increasingly difficult to stay grateful. These could be a result of the emotional, physical or financial pressures we face daily that seem not to ever go away. Pressure from our work, from family, friends or from society in general. It is at times like these that we need help and support from people around us or things/activities to help us maintain a grateful mindset and to keep us going.

Sometimes in life, we tend to easily get caught up in the negativity around us. In fact, society is shaped in such a way to make us focus on all the wrong things happening rather than the positive ones. This is usually how it begins most of the time and continuing on this path leads us only into more trouble every time.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we all knew how to turn things around to brighten us up whenever we feel down? Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone loved more and judged less? Think about a magic wand that could easily make all human problems go away such that we’re happy most of the time if not all the time.

What if I told you that such a wand exists and it is available to everyone who cares to have it? Yes! It’s called “A Grateful Heart” or “A Grateful Mindset”.

In life, as we begin to appreciate our lives and everything else around us, suddenly life begins to make more sense. Somehow, we start to attract more positive energy into our lives because we’re already grateful for what the universe has given to us.

Most times, we tend to focus on the things we want rather than the things we already have. Making this minor adjustment in our mindset can cause a massive shift in how we interpret everything going on in our lives.

Personally, when I awake every morning, I make it a deliberate practice to be grateful for the life that day because no matter what, waking up to another day means that I still have a chance at making things right by myself, my family and every other person. I am grateful for my health, my ability to work and earn an income, my ability to enjoy a good sleep and a whole other list of things that I’m grateful for that day.

The truth is, we don’t necessarily need to have achieved any material success before we can feel this way. Taking note and appreciating the little things of life like our food, our health, our friends, our family etc. is more than enough to make everything fall into place.

In order to help you get started on things you can do to constantly adopt a grateful mindset; here are few things you can do to help you get started:

  1. Start by creating a Gratitude Diary or Calendar and commit to writing into it every day, even if it’s just two words like; my house, my pets, my car, my shoes etc.
  2. Look forward to new things you can be grateful for; a new home, a spouse, a new car, a new job, better health, the list is endless, just use your imagination.
  3. Be genuinely grateful for your mistakes and see it as a learning curve. Resolve to only see the positives in them, at least you’re a better person today because of those mistakes.
  4. Express gratitude to the people around you, your neighbors, your colleagues, your employees and even random strangers you run into daily at the supermarket, gas station, coffee shop etc.
  5. Take the time to write a handwritten letter of gratitude to someone who has made a difference in your life. Perhaps a teacher, a clergy person, a coach, co-worker, mentor, or health care provider. Do this and don’t expect anything in return. You’re trying to give out positive energy, so it must definitely come back to you.
  6. Write a letter to yourself and remind yourself of how awesome you are. Try this and see the magic it’ll work; you’d be surprised at how your spirits would be uplifted that day.
  7. Be grateful to the God or the supernatural that holds everything in the entire universe in place. Be positive that everything is eventually working out for the good of all. Even if you can’t see it, just believe it.
  8. Avoid toxic and ungrateful people, they don’t help.
  9. Lastly, learn to love a lot more and judge less.

The truth of the matter is that you make tangible adjustments to your life by adopting a positive mindset. It all begins with little changes like those mentioned above.

A grateful mind is a great mind which eventually attracts to itself great things.
